Con motivo del 50 Aniversario del Hombre de Acero y su renacimiento luego de la Crisis en las Tierras Infinitas, esta corta pero buena serie de Superman debutó en 1988. En total solo se produjeron 13 episodios debido a los bajos ratings, y cada uno de ellos contuvo una historia de Superman y una mini-aventura de Clark Kent durante su niñez y juventud, llamada "El Álbum Familiar de Superman". El villano más recurrente es Lex Luthor, en su versión de multimillonario ambicioso, mientras que también aparecieron Prankster y el General Zod. La Mujer Maravilla hace una aparición especial, en su versión Post-Crisis. El tema musical de John Williams fue utilizado para la introducción junto con arreglos de Ron Jones, y el mismo Jones compuso el resto de la música de la serie.
